Ch-ch-ch-Chia...Seeds

Chia seeds are one of those health foods that are becoming more and more available and more widely used.
They are the same seeds used in the in infamous "chia pet" but these days people associate them more with their status as a superfood rather than a way to grow an indoor plant....that looks like a sheep.

Chia seeds are a great source of fibre and healthy omega-3 fats, plus they are easy to implement into your daily life.

These seeds come from a flowering plant that grows in Mexico and the seeds were said to be harvested by the Aztecs.

So why are they good for you?
Chia seeds have lots of health benefits. They boost energy, aid digestion, stabilize blood sugar and lower cholesterol. They are also a great source of protein, Manganese(good for bones), and phosphorous (cell/tissue repair).

When you are buying Chia seeds look for white or dark brown seeds and avoid black and red (these are considered to be immature in their growth and are not a good quality seed)

You can use chia seeds in your every day life by sprinkling them on top of soups, salads, smoothies or virtually any other food. Eaten this way you can expect a tiny crunch factor added to your favourite foods.

Another great way to enjoy them is to add a tablespoon to a glass of water. Add some lemon and drink this with a straw to avoid the seeds getting stuck in your teeth (they are about the size of poppy seeds).
You can also soak chia seeds and blend them into your favourite smoothie. It's delicious and so good for you!

Chia seeds are one of the easiest super foods to incorporate into your diet. So hope you add this item to your pantry...it has become a staple in mine.
