About Me

I'm Angelie... it's nice to meet you!

I have a passion for eating, cooking, entertaining, writing and living life to the fullest! Here are my answers to some frequently asked questions. Would love to hear how you'd answer these questions too. Leave me a comment below!

What is your favourite food?
My favourite food? It's a tough question to answer. I love food in general! I love the taste of simple pairings like cheese and pears, tomatoes and basil and lemon with pretty much everything. I also love sushi, soups, mashed potatoes....and my favourite meal of the year has to be a huge Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings!

What do you like to eat and serve on a special occasion?
In my family, Friday nights are a special occasion! We love to take every opportunity to eat well and enjoy time together. That being said, on these Friday nights when we are in the mood to celebrate, my sister and I infamously break out the wine and cheese. We love huge platters of different cheeses, crackers, olives, jellies and honey. There's always some fruit like apples, pears or grapes and we sometimes will add spiced nuts too. We laugh, we chat, we sometimes will watch a movie...and these are some of my fondest memories of hanging out with my family.

When did you start cooking?
I have loved food and healthy foods since a very young age. Before my first day of school, my mom asked me what I wanted to take for lunch and I answered soup and a salad. In fact, my mom had to have rules in place so I wouldn't fill myself up on soups and veggie sticks alone. I started cooking dinner for my family, without help, when I was around 10 years old. Even before that, I'd play in the kitchen and hang out there, tasting and testing anything my mom had bubbling away on the stove. I loved trying new things and letting her know what flavours I could taste in whatever she was preparing.

Do you have a lot of free time in the evenings to put meals together?
I actually have pretty limited time in the evenings as I work full-time and often my work carries over into the evening. I also try to make an effort to do something active in the evenings like yoga or going for a walk. That being said, I try to plan my meals in advance and cook a few larger meals at the beginning of the week. Then I'll portion the leftovers into containers and store them for lunches and subsequent dinners. On weekdays when I do cook, I'll often use my oven to make sure I'm able to prep, set a timer and forget about it. I find it helps me stay organized, use my time wisely and have healthy fresh food ready in very little time.

What inspires you to cook?
I love to walk around gourmet grocery stores and farmer's markets. I could spend hours there looking at interesting produce, honeys, jams and oils! I learn so much and am always inspired to try new things. Also my friends, family and readers are always inspiring me. I love being able to try something new and share it with others so that they can benefit in their own kitchens too!

What types of foods do you enjoy cooking?
I enjoy cooking foods that are fresh and flavourful. I also like pairing different ingredients to try and come up with something new. I love a challenge, so when I'm in the mood I will attempt to broaden my skill set as a cook and find a cooking technique that is outside of my comfort zone. Most recently I've been trying to cook more Indian dishes from scratch. It's been a great way to learn new skills as a chef and now I make a pretty mean Daal Makhani!

Are the recipes on this website for the average home cook or for someone with more experience in the kitchen?
The recipes and articles on my blog are for anyone who is even remotely interested in food. I try to cover a wide range of topics that I feel my friends might be interested in. Sometimes I will talk about super foods, health tips, kitchen tips or share culinary adventures I've had while traveling. I also love to share recipes that are tried and tested in my own kitchen many times. If they are quick, easy and healthy you will find them here. I really feel anyone, no matter how much experience they have in the kitchen, can be a better home cook with a little practice and some key information. That's what I hope to share with my readers. Easy recipes and tips that will make their life at home simpler and more enjoyable.
