Family Friendly Travel
I've had the privilege of travelling to Florida quite a few times as a child, young adult and now with my own family. This is a state I love to visit because of the warm climate, endless sunshine and pristine beaches.
As a parent, I also love that Florida:
- Is a quick flight from Toronto (about 3 hours)
- Has all the convienences of home
- Offers many different styles of accommodation- some with suites or kitchens
- Has lots of family friendly activities
About Pompano Beach
On our last few trips we have explored around Fort Lauderdale and one of our favourite pockets is a suburb called Pompano Beach.
Pompano is a safe, family friendly area with a beautiful, newly renovated boardwalk for evening strolls. It's close enough to the action in Fort Lauderdale that you can take a quick Uber ride (15 minutes) to dine at some of the fancier restaurants or check out some nightlife, but it's also quiet and calm so you can relax.
Pompano has some great amenities for kids such as the shaded outdoor playground, splash pad and lots of green space. With soft sand and shallow, warm water we also love to spend our time at the beach building sandcastles and watching the pelicans dive!
Pompano is an old fishing village so walking down the pier is a must while you are visiting.
You can grab a casual bite at local hotspot Lucky Fish where you will be treated to live music on weeknights or if you are looking for a beachside dining with a view, visit our favourite- The Beach House for the most unforgettable chicken wings and a kid's menu that has lots of healthy options!
Don't forget to cap off your evening with a visit to Kilwin's Ice Cream Parlour for some old fashioned confections and ice cream made from quality ingredients!
